Shell and Aldi have joined forces to bring rapid charging solutions to customers across the UK. In a trial collaboration, four 50kW rapid chargers will be installed at various convenient locations, including Hinckley, Cambuslang, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Paignton, Ulverston, Welshpool, Deal, and New Malden.
Bernie Williamson, the general manager of Shell Mobility UK, has expressed his ambition for the vast majority of UK drivers to have access to a Shell rapid charger within a 10-minute radius by 2030. Whether at a Shell forecourt or other convenient destinations, this initiative aims to provide customers with a reliable and convenient charging experience. In support of this venture, a 2023 EV drivers survey revealed that 63% of UK respondents believe that the availability of charge points plays a significant role in influencing their shopping and travel choices.
Aldi, a renowned environmentally responsible retailer, recognizes its duty to help customers adopt more sustainable practices. George Brown, the real estate director at Aldi UK, said, “We are pleased to be partnering with Shell for this trial, allowing our customers to access rapid charging while they shop for our high-quality, affordable products in-store.”
For ease of use, customers can access charger location, availability information, and estimated cost of a charging session through the Shell Recharge app. Payment can be made securely and conveniently via the app or by using a contactless card. It’s worth noting that no subscription is required to utilize these chargers, placing an emphasis on accessibility and accommodating all electric vehicle users.
While the initial phase focuses on installing chargers at 11 select Aldi stores, Shell and Aldi aim to expand this partnership across the entire UK based on valuable customer feedback.
By collaborating on this innovative charging infrastructure, Shell and Aldi are taking a proactive step towards realizing their shared vision of creating a greener and more sustainable future for all.
