Adriatico has recently unveiled its fourth limited-edition expression in the renowned Amaretto Collection, showcasing a unique blend that incorporates the exquisite Planteray Rum.
In a bold move to redefine the amaretto category, Adriatico proudly introduces the Adriatico Roasted Amaretto Planteray Rum Cask. This limited-edition amaretto consists of only 2,600 bottles and is produced in collaboration with a prestigious rum manufacturer.
The Adriatico Roasted Amaretto Planteray Rum Cask will be readily accessible in the UK, France, Denmark, Italy, Sweden, Spain, Germany, and Switzerland. Customers can purchase it exclusively from Fenwick stores throughout the UK.
This limited edition marks the fourth release in the Adriatico Amaretto series, following the successful Heaven Hill Bourbon Cask, Caroni Rum Cask, and Bonollo Grappa Cask expressions. Notably, this new iteration matures Adriatico Roasted Amaretto for eight months in ex-Planteray Fijian Rum casks, resulting in a compelling amaretto that boasts rich rum characteristics.
As part of this innovative collaboration, Maison Ferrand, the producers of Planteray Rum, utilized Adriatico Amaretto casks to age their Barbados Single Cask Rum from 2017. This initiative marks the first occasion where rum has been matured in an ex-amaretto cask, with approximately 1,500 bottles to be released.
Fannie Thibaud, head of creation and experimentation at Maison Ferrand, emphasizes the importance of selecting a robust rum to balance the sweetness of the amaretto. She states, “Amaretto is quite sweet, so we needed a rum that was more tannic and structured to achieve a nicely balanced palate.” Thibaud further notes, “Additionally, the almond and sweet orange notes pair perfectly with the coffee and toasted flavours of the Fiji rum, with slightly animalistic notes that further enhance the marriage of these spirits.”
Jean-Robert Bellanger, co-founder of Adriatico Amaretto, expresses excitement regarding this collaboration with a renowned rum producer for their fourth limited edition. He explains, “Planteray is a leader in the rum category, producing original blends and single-cask rums from around the world.” He adds, “We found that the Planteray Fijian Rum Casks enhanced Adriatico Roasted Amaretto beautifully.” To maximize flavor synergy, Adriatico traded its Roasted Amaretto casks with Planteray’s founder, Alexandre Gabriel, allowing his Barbados Single Cask Rum to age in their Amaretto casks, while they used his rum casks for their Amaretto. The result is a luxurious amaretto infused with hints of spices and strength.
